Archibald William Montgomerie                     1841-1892
14th Earl of Eglinton in the Peerage of Scotland, and Earl of Winton in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
Archibald was born on 3 December 1841, at York, the son of Archibald William Montgomerie and Lady Adela Caroline Harriet Capell. He married Lady Sofia on 6 December 1862. He died on 30 August 1892 at Eglinton Castle.

Lady Sophia was born on 26 July 1840, the daughter of Charles Anderson Worsley Anderson-Pelham, 2nd Earl of Yarborough, and Hon. Maria Adelaide Maude. She died on 21 September 1886.

  The Earl of Eglinton died at Eglinton Castle, Ayrshire, yesterday afternoon. For some time past he had been in very delicate health. Lord Eglinton was the son of the 13th earl, by his first wife, daughter of Mr. Charles Newcomen, and was born in 1841. He succeeded his father in 1861, and married, in the following year, Lady Sophia, daughter of the second Earl of Yarborough, who died in 1886. He was formerly in the Royal Navy and was sometime lieutenant colonel of the Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry. Lord Eglinton, who was a justice of the peace and deputy lieutenant of Ayrshire and a deputy lieutenant of Lanarkshire, is succeeded by his brother, the Hon. George Montgomerie, who was born in 1848, and married in 1873, Janet, daughter of the late Mr, Boyd A. Cunninghame.
