Crawford Townshend Bowen 1834

Crawford was born about 1834, the son of Jeremiah Bowen and Sarah Norton Cole, at Handford, Staffordshire. He took holy orders in 1859, being ordained priest at York, the following year. For 2 years he was curate at Skelton in Cleveland and was subsequently curate at Guisborough and Gainford until 1870, when he was preferred to the living at Bolam. He was the composer of Bowen's Te Deum and was well known as an enthusiastic organist. He was also keenly interested in

astronomical science and gave lectures on astronomy. The restoration of the Bolam church and the foundation of the village school were the chief labours of a quiet ministry.
He died in 1908, and was laid to rest in the cemetery at Skelton, Cleveland. The chief mourners were Mrs. H. E. Bowen (widow), Mrs. Elgey and Mrs. Davies (daughters) Mr. Davies (son-in-law), Mrs. C. Possitt and Miss Bowen (grand-daughters). Mr & Mrs. Tate.

Hannah was born about 1841, the daughter of John Tate and Mary Ann Tiplady, at Skelton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire.
