OBITUARY
MR. HOWARD WYNDHAM
THE THEATRE AND FARMING
Mr. Howard Wyndham, who after a remarkable career in the Middle West came back to London to manage his father's theatres after Sir Charles Wyndham's health began to break down, died yesterday at his home at Welwya at the age of 81.
Born on April 4, 1865, he early decided on a career in engineering, and was apprenticed to a firm in Glasgow.
Feeling, however, unable to settle down in this country he paid a visit to the United States as a young man and quickly found his way to the Middle West, where he began farming and later cattle dealing.
The lure of gold took him to Colorado, and he had some exciting experiences while prospecting some of the old deep workings, many of them dangerous through flooding.

The lure of gold took him to Colorado, and he had some exciting experiences while prospecting some of the old deep workings, many of them dangerous through flooding.
After some 20 years in America he returned to England to help his father in his management of the Criterion, Wyndham's and New theatres.
After his father's death in 1919, he continued management on behalf of his stepmother, Mary Moore, in partnership with Mr. Bronson Albery.
He was one of the most respected men in theatrical circles, and one of the most popular members of the Garrick Club.
A charming host, his birthday parties will be long remembered.
Nearly 200 members of the theatrical profession attended a party in celebration of his seventieth birthday.
His wife, who was also on the board of Wyndham's Theatres Limited, died some 12 months ago.
